Stainless Steel 304L (American ASTM standard grade, corresponding to Chinese grade 022Cr19Ni10) is a low-carbon version of 304 stainless steel and is one of the most commonly used and economical grades in the austenitic acero inoxidable family. The “L” in its name stands for “Low Carbon,” which is the most fundamental difference between it and standard 304 stainless steel.

Simply put, 304L=304 (good corrosion resistance+excellent processability)+”L” (low carbon=better welding performance).

1. Excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion: Low carbon content significantly reduces the risk of chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries.

2. Good weldability: No post-weld annealing treatment required.

3. Balanced overall performance: Excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability.

4. Non-magnetic (after solution treatment).

Important note: Although 304L is more resistant to intergranular corrosion than 304, its resistance to pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking caused by chloride ions has not improved. In chlorine containing environments, 316/316L containing molybdenum should be selected.

4. Automotive and Transportation: Exhaust system components (low-temperature range), decorative strips, nameplates, fuel tanks, and fluid storage tanks.
5. Other fields: household appliances (washing machines, dishwasher liners), heat exchanger tubes, low-temperature containers (up to -196 ℃).
