Product Introduce
High carbon steel, also known as carbon tool steel or M2, is a type of steel with a relatively high carbon content, typically ranging from 0.60% to 1.0%. It also contains manganese in the range of 0.30% to 0.90%. This steel is commonly used in the production of hand tools, spring materials, and high-strength steel wires.
Performance Characteristics
After undergoing heat treatment or cold drawing, high-carbon steel exhibits high strength, hardness, as well as excellent elastic and fatigue limits. It has good machinability, but its weldability and cold plasticity are relatively poor. Due to its high carbon content, it is prone to cracking during water quenching. Therefore, double-liquid quenching (initially cooling in water followed by oil) is often used. For small-section parts, oil quenching is commonly employed. Additionally, the density of high-carbon steel is 7.81 g/cm³.
