SGCC is the designation of hot-dip galvanized steel plates in the Japanese Industrial Standard JIS G3302. Simply put, SGCC stands for “cold-rolled commercial grade hot-dip acero galvanizado“. It is a universal acero galvanizado plate made from ordinary carbon structural steel as the substrate, through cold rolling and hot-dip galvanizing processes. The surface is covered with a uniform zinc layer, providing excellent corrosion resistance.

With excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and cost-effectiveness, SGCC is widely used in multiple industries. JIS G3302 defines it as a “commercial grade (CQ)” material suitable for forming processing.

Excellent anti-corrosion protection – the zinc layer acts as a sacrificial barrier. Even if the surface is scratched, the surrounding zinc will still protect the exposed steel substrate through electrochemical action. The service life can reach 30-50 years in general environments.

Good formability – SGCC can be cut, bent, stamped, and welded using standard methods. After appropriate surface treatment, it is also compatible with powder coating and paint.

High cost-effectiveness – Compared to stainless steel or aluminum, SGCC has much lower material costs and provides sufficient corrosion resistance for most applications. In terms of price, the basic grade is about 450-600 US dollars per ton, and the high coating is about 750-870 US dollars per ton.

Widely available – SGCC is a standard grade for steel suppliers worldwide, with most thicknesses and widths available in stock.

Environmentally friendly – both steel and zinc can be 100% recycled, and the hot-dip galvanizing process does not use harmful solvents or volatile organic compounds.
