SGCC is the designation of hot-dip galvanized steel plates in the Japanese Industrial Standard JIS G3302. Simply put, SGCC stands for “cold-rolled commercial grade hot-dip فولاذ مجلفن“. It is a universal فولاذ مجلفن plate made from ordinary carbon structural steel as the substrate, through cold rolling and hot-dip galvanizing processes. The surface is covered with a uniform zinc layer, providing excellent corrosion resistance.

With excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and cost-effectiveness, SGCC is widely used in multiple industries. JIS G3302 defines it as a “commercial grade (CQ)” material suitable for forming processing.

Advantages of SGCC galvanized steel
Excellent anti-corrosion protection – the zinc layer acts as a sacrificial barrier. Even if the surface is scratched, the surrounding zinc will still protect the exposed steel substrate through electrochemical action. The service life can reach 30-50 years in general environments.
Good formability – SGCC can be cut, bent, stamped, and welded using standard methods. After appropriate surface treatment, it is also compatible with powder coating and paint.
High cost-effectiveness – Compared to stainless steel or aluminum, SGCC has much lower material costs and provides sufficient corrosion resistance for most applications. In terms of price, the basic grade is about 450-600 US dollars per ton, and the high coating is about 750-870 US dollars per ton.
Widely available – SGCC is a standard grade for steel suppliers worldwide, with most thicknesses and widths available in stock.
Environmentally friendly – both steel and zinc can be 100% recycled, and the hot-dip galvanizing process does not use harmful solvents or volatile organic compounds.

Can GCC galvanized steel be welded?
Okay. SGCC has a low carbon content (up to 0.15%) and is suitable for spot welding, seam welding, and gas welding. Pay attention to good ventilation during welding, as it can produce zinc fumes.
How long can GCC be used outdoors?
Choosing the appropriate coating weight (Z18 and above), SGCC can last for 20-50 years in general outdoor environments. In coastal or heavy industrial areas, if higher coatings are not used, the lifespan may be shortened.
Are GCC and GI (galvanized iron) the same?
GI is the general term for hot-dip galvanized steel. SGCC is a specific JIS grade in GI steel, which has clear mechanical properties and coating standards.
What does “Z12” or “Z25” mean on GCC products?
Z represents the zinc coating, and the number represents the total weight of the coating on both sides (g/m ²). For example, Z12=120 g/m ² (approximately 60 g/m ² per side).
