What Is a Galvanized Corrugated Sheet?

A galvanized corrugated sheet is a profiled steel sheet made from hot-dip galvanized steel coil that has been roll-formed into a series of parallel ridges and grooves (corrugations). The zinc coating protects the underlying steel from rust and corrosion, while the corrugated profile significantly increases the sheet’s structural strength and load-bearing capacity compared to a flat sheet of the same thickness.

The Galvanization Process

  4. Hot-Dip Galvanizing — The pre-treated steel sheet is immersed in molten zinc at 450–460°C, forming a metallurgical bond between the zinc and steel. This creates iron-zinc alloy layers and a pure zinc top layer, typically 30–275 g/m² thick.

The zinc coating provides two types of protection:

  • Barrier protection — The zinc layer physically seals the steel from moisture and oxygen.
  • Sacrificial (cathodic) protection — Even if the coating is scratched or damaged, the zinc corrodes preferentially, protecting the exposed steel beneath.

Corrugation Forming

After galvanizing, the flat steel sheet passes through a roll-forming machine with profiled rollers that shape it into corrugations. The ridge height, groove spacing, and wave pattern can be customized to meet different structural and drainage requirements.
